We’re looking for an experienced Habitats Management Operative to join our dynamic team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Based within commuting distance to our Essex office, this role offers a site-based working model. As part of a team dedicated to safeguarding and rejuvenating the natural world, you’ll play a vital role in delivering cutting-edge solutions for a range of exciting projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Get hands-on with habitat creation and management — from planning to execution, you’ll be actively involved in making nature thrive again.
  • Prioritize safety by adhering to all health and safety policies and ensuring compliance on every site.
  • Collaborate with a passionate team, attending site briefings, toolbox talks, and ensuring every task aligns with approved methods.
  • Share your expertise with the team and contribute to continuous learning and development.

Required:

  • Relevant Health & Safety qualifications. (CSCS)
  • A full driving license (including towing experience if required).
  • An interest in ecology and the natural environment.
  • Flexibility for occasional overnight stays for specific projects.

Desired, but not essential:

  • PA1/PA6 Knapsack Spraying
  • NPTC Brush-cutters
  • NPTC Chainsaws
  • NPTC Aerial Climbing
  • First Aid
  • Excavator Certification (CPCS/NPORS)
  • Robo-flail Certification
  • Tractor Certification (CPCS/NPORS)

We are a multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in ecology, habitat management, arboriculture, and landscape design, based in Essex, UK. Since our company’s founding, we have grown to become a leading UK provider of specialist ecological, arboricultural and landscape design consulting services. We are known for devising sustainable, pragmatic, and client-focused solutions. Our diverse portfolio includes clients in the fields of infrastructure, development, conservation charities and individual bespoke projects. SES has a team of 52 qualified ecologists, landscape architects, arboriculturists and coordination and support staff. Currently, we’re working with Barratt Homes and the RSPB on a large residential housing development, Kingsbrook, a case study in the biodiversity net gain best practice principles for development. Our ecological work includes due diligence reporting, land appraisals, habitat design and creation, protected species surveys and ecological impact assessments. Landscape design and planning services teams specialise in strategic projects, combining an innovative and context-led approach to design.
